Pearl jam donates $58,800 to QA housing agency | Community Spirit
Title
Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy Foundation made an early holiday gift to HomeStep, a housing program with offices on Nickerson Street.
Pearl Jam donates $2 of every concert ticket sold to the Vitalogy Foundation, which is in turn distributed to non-profit organizations of each band member's choice. Drummer Matt Cameron chose HomeStep to receive his portion of the funding this year.
HomeStep helps people overcome homelessness by providing 24 months of housing and personalized support services aimed at building self-sufficiency. During the current recession, HomeStep has had to turn away at least 7 families for every one it can accept.
Every year HomeStep houses and assists more than 100 families (including almost 200 children) and 60 single men, women and young adults who have been evicted or are fleeing domestic violence and are living in emergency shelters, in their cars or on the streets.
